As soon as they enter the ex- hibit, visitors are faced with this very large sculpture by El Hadji Keita, a sculptor from Saint-Louis, Senegal: an im- pressive representation made of wood, clay and iron that immediately connects the pur- pose of the Exile Pavilion with the intimate and collective his- tory of Saint-Louis.

Many of El Hadji Keita’s works are inspired by nature and wild animals, sculpted from tradi- tional materials and represent- ing his profound attachment to his roots and to the earth, but here, his art is at the service of a reappropriation of his per- sonal history as well as that of his city and country.
