As soon as they enter the exhibit, visitors are faced with this very large sculpture by El Hadji Keita, a sculptor from Saint-Louis, Senegal: an impressive representation made of wood, clay and iron that immediately connects the purpose of the Exile Pavilion with the intimate and collective history of Saint-Louis.

Many of El Hadji Keita’s works are inspired by nature and wild animals, sculpted from tradi- tional materials and representing his profound attachment to his roots and to the earth, but here, his art is at the service of a reappropriation of his personal history as well as that of his city and country.
